Body

Dysphasia is trouble swallowing. It occurs when you have trouble moving food or liquid from your mouth to your esophagus or down to your stomach. Dysphagia may be due to a variety of medical conditions.
Sometimes people with dysphagia are put on a special diet for safety.

Beginning in May of 2019, the American Speech Language-Hearing Association and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics endorsed the use of the International Dysphasia Diet. This replaces the National Dysphagia Diet and other facility specific dysphagia diets. Please consult with your speech-language pathologist, physician or medical team.
